Privacy Policy

backi.app sorts the files of an exported WhatsApp chat in your browser. This policy explains which data is touched, where it stays and which third parties are involved. In short: we have no server of our own and we do not receive your files.
Who is responsible
The party responsible for backi.app is backi.app, an independent project.

Your files are processed on your device
backi.app has no server of its own. The ZIP is opened, analyzed and sorted in your browser. Neither your files nor the chat text are ever sent to backi.app servers.
The chat text (_chat.txt or "WhatsApp Chat with ….txt") is discarded: it is not uploaded anywhere.
Photo classification with AI
Photos are grouped by topic with an AI model (CLIP) that runs locally on your device. Your photos do not leave your device for this.
The model is downloaded from this same site. Only if it is not available there, it is downloaded from Hugging Face and jsDelivr. Those downloads do not include your photos or any data about you.
Google Drive
When you choose Google Drive as the destination and tap to connect, the Google window opens so you can choose the account and grant the permission. We request https://www.googleapis.com/auth/drive.file: it only allows creating folders and files and accessing the files the app creates. It cannot see or modify the rest of your Drive.
Files go directly from your browser to Google Drive. To show you which account they are saved to, the app reads the name and email of that Google account. They are only shown on screen: we do not store them.
The access token lives only in the browser's memory: it disappears when you close or reload the tab and expires on its own shortly after. It is revoked when you switch your Drive account from the app, and you can also revoke it whenever you want (see "How to revoke access").
Payments
Payments are processed by Lemon Squeezy, which receives and handles your purchase data (name, email, payment method) under its privacy policy. backi.app does not receive or store your payment details.
To validate and activate your license key, the app sends the key from your browser to api.lemonsqueezy.com, together with a reference name that only contains the date and time. Your files, the chat name and the chat text are not sent.
The key is stored in your browser's local storage (localStorage, key wasap-license) so we do not ask for it again, until you delete it with "Use another key" or clear the site's data.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how the site is used, and only if you accept analytics cookies in the notice. If you do not accept, Google Analytics is not loaded and nothing is measured.
What is measured:
- Page views: which screen of the site is opened (home, upload, review, save, terms, privacy), with no data about your files.
- Anonymous usage events: how many files and photos a ZIP had (counts only), whether you used photo classification and whether it worked, clicks on buy, whether a key verification succeeded or with which error code, and whether a conversion was completed (to Drive or ZIP, with the number of files) or refunded.
- Technical data collected by Google: truncated IP address, browser, device and approximate country.
- File names, the chat name, emails and your license key are never measured or sent. Advertising and ad personalization signals stay disabled.
How to change your analytics choice
You can change your choice at any time with the “Cookie preferences” link in the footer: there you can accept or decline again. If you decline, measuring stops immediately.
Google handles the data it collects under its privacy policy.
Third-party services
To work, the app uses these services. Each one is governed by its own privacy policy:
- Render: hosts the site. It may record your IP address and technical access data in its logs.
- Lemon Squeezy: processes payments and manages license keys (api.lemonsqueezy.com).
- Google: Google Identity Services and the Google Drive APIs (only when you connect Drive) and Google Fonts. When fonts load, your browser connects to Google servers.
- Hugging Face and jsDelivr: only if the AI model is not available on this site, as explained above.
- Google Analytics: measures use of the site, only if you accept analytics cookies (see “Analytics”). It is loaded from googletagmanager.com.
Google user data
backi.app's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
We do not sell or share your data, we do not use it for advertising and we do not use it to train models.
How to revoke access
You can switch or disconnect your Drive account from the app. You can also withdraw access at any time at myaccount.google.com/permissions.
To delete the stored license key, use "Use another key" or clear the site's data in your browser.
Your rights
Since we do not store personal data on servers of our own, there is no data of yours for us to give access to, correct or delete. What the app keeps stays in your browser and you can delete it whenever you want.
If you have questions, write to info@backi.app. Under Argentina's Personal Data Protection Law No. 25,326, the supervisory authority is the Agencia de Acceso a la Información Pública (AAIP), where you can also file a complaint.
Children
backi.app is not directed to children under 13.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will publish the new version on this page with a new update date.
